I applied for a #CorporateAffairs position at AstraZeneca not knowing what to expect. After several rounds of interviews and deep dives into the company, I accepted a position working in AstraZeneca's Respiratory and Immunology Therapeutic Area. As I wrap up my internship, I can share a few learnings about the company and my position in Corporate Affairs.1. AstraZeneca embodies a patient-centric and people-oriented culture. I had the opportunity to work across various departments, diseases, and brands. Irrespective of the task, the well-being of patients was consistently at the forefront. This compassion extended into my daily experiences at the Wilmington site. Over the summer, my main goal was to absorb as much as possible about AstraZeneca. To do this, I reached out to individuals from different departments, therapeutic areas, and even time zones. Every email I sent was met with an enthusiastic response and insightful conversation. 2. Corporate Affairs is the ultimate convener and enterprise champion. This role provided me with invaluable insights into the broader pharmaceutical landscape. Working within a multifaceted team exposed me to brand management and media relations to policy and legislation. 3. Embracing the present while allowing one's experiences to shape the journey is key. My experiences in the life science industry have only deepened my passion for this field. However, the specific path I want to pursue within it remains a question. After conversations with numerous industry professionals, a common thread emerged. Seize roles that resonate with you, and let your inclinations guide you. The individuals I spoke with love their current positions, but it often took years to reach this point. Demonstrating patience and approaching opportunities with an open mind are critical in discovering where you truly belong.Although numerous part of the internship were challenging, I gave it my all. In recognition of this, I received AstraZeneca's Rising Star Award, alongsideAnna Castagno, for the Wilmington site. The award was given to 2 interns out of cohort of nearly 40 for exceptional work and commitment to AstraZeneca's core values.I'm so thankful for this experience.
