Good morning, LinkedIn community! 🌄My recent adventure to Yellowstone National Park began with a flat tire in my rental car right at the park's entrance. As luck would have it, it concluded with a tow back to Bozeman Airport. While not an ideal scenario, I want to share how the kindness of strangers turned this misadventure into an unforgettable experience, ensuring I could still enjoy my trip and return home safe and sound. As I reflected on these unexpected twists during my return flight, I was reminded that when it comes to delivering exceptional customer service, there are two fundamental elements that truly matter:1. **Attitude: ** In every interaction with customer service representatives, one consistent factor stood out - their sincere desire to assist and their remarkable empathy towards me as an individual. Their attitude made all the difference, even when they couldn't immediately resolve my issues. Knowing they genuinely wanted to help transformed each encounter into a positive and meaningful exchange.2. **Empowerment: ** Multiple individuals went above and beyond to accommodate me because they possessed the confidence and autonomy to do so. They didn't need to seek permission, consult scripts, or adhere to rigid policies; they did what was right for me in the moment. Companies renowned for their stellar service empower their teams for a reason – it simply works. The true measure of customer service lies in what your teams do when no one is watching, with no external incentives or evaluations. Drawing from my extensive background in learning and development, I can affirm that no amount of training can compensate for a poor attitude. It's crucial to hire individuals who naturally embody the qualities that can't be taught – the helpers. When you have such people on your team, the rest naturally falls into place.I'd like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible individuals at Xanterra, the National Park Service, Marriott Hotels, Hertz, AAA, and American Airlines for consistently going the extra mile. To each one of you, I see you, I appreciate you, and I wholeheartedly thank you! 🙌🙏 #customerserviceexcellence #Gratitude #ExceptionalService #Hospitality #Training #attitude #empowerment

Absolutely thrilled to share my experience from last year when I had the incredible opportunity to visit Meyer Werft. Known for their remarkable shipbuilding capabilities, it was an eye-opening experience to tour a new build cruise ship. The sheer scale and efficiency of their operations left me in awe. Imagine the logistics involved in constructing such a colossal vessel, and completing it within just two years! This is something that truly sets a benchmark, and I believe the superyacht industry could greatly benefit from adopting some of these practices.Among the many highlights of my visit, the most impressive was undoubtedly the stage where onboard performances take place. The technology and innovation embedded in that setup were simply breathtaking—on par, if not superior, to some Broadway stages. This visit reinforced a belief I’ve long held: there’s a lot we can learn by looking beyond our own industry’s boundaries. Cross-industry learning isn’t as common as it should be, yet it holds immense potential for growth and innovation.I’m curious, do you leverage insights or practices from other industries in your own field? How has it impacted your work?#Innovation #CrossIndustryLearning #Superyacht #CruiseShip #AVSystems #Shipbuilding #Technology #LearningOpportunities Van Berge Henegouwen (VBH) Alexander W. Höfling

Doran Schurr, Osborne, celebrated his 30th work anniversary at Osborne Industries, Inc., on July 26, 2023. Schurr is the Trim & Finish and Assembly Area Supervisor. When hired 30 years ago, Schurr was familiar with the work done at Osborne Industries as he had been employed during the summers of 1989 and 1990. Schurr chuckles about his return and being hired full-time with the company after those first summers, as he was “re-hired” and working in the Assembly area before the Human Resources department even knew about his hiring! When Schurr started full-time in 1993, his first assignment was working in the wood shop building pallets and AGRI-AIDE barn ventilation fresh air inlets. It wasn’t long before he moved to bonding aerial platforms in the Assembly area for the next 15 years until he became the area’s supervisor. Schurr’s mark in the aerial platform bonding area is evident even to this day. He was instrumental in implementing standardized work instructions for aerial platforms. When he started, there were only a few finished part numbers, and today that number has ballooned to over 1,000! Schurr realized having simple and easy-to-follow work instructions was necessary to ensure we had an efficient way to manufacture platforms to various configurations. Schurr fondly recalls having a notebook secretly tucked away with his own sketches that helped him quickly know what fixtures were needed for a finished platform. He also remembers one day when Larry Eck, former area supervisor, approached him with the idea of creating specification sheets for the platforms. With a grin, Schurr recollects showing Eck his notebook, which gave them a huge head start on the project.Over the course of his 30 years of employment at Osborne Industries, Schurr has seen many changes. One of the biggest changes that directly affected his work was the addition of an automated adhesive dispenser in the platform bonding area. This single machine increased the throughput of bonded parts substantially, which was previously mixed and applied with caulking guns. Schurr has seen many highs and lows in business and how outside world events like 9/11 and recessions can seriously affect business. However, owing to its diversification and healthy financial standing, Osborne Industries has always “weathered the storms.” Schurr believes everyone should keep in mind that tough times don’t last, but tough people do. Time has proven that again and again at Osborne Industries.Osborne Industries’ team of employee owners take this time to thank and congratulate Doran for his 30 years of service and loyalty to our company!#employeeowned #yearsofservice #30yearanniversary #ownership #BuildingEmployeeExcellence

Account Executive at Mainfreight - The only way to keep ahead of our competitor is by the superior performance of our people. The only measurement of that superior performance is how the customer perceives it.

Since the start, I've been unable to stop myself from talking The Mainfreight Way to everyone and anyone who will listen. The people, the values, goals, and interactions have transcended into my everyday life in so many ways. Those I surround myself with, family and friends, see the joy and pride radiate off me when I talk about my career at Mainfreight. So much so, that my life-time best friend wanted to join the team... So today I would like to congratulate Brittany Anderson on her third month with us at Mainfreight Americas. I am more than excited for her to join me and my other teammates on the sales team later this year. “Tear down the walls of bureaucracy, hierarchy and superiority.” One of my most favored cultural beliefs at Mainfreight. I seen this being practiced from day one; no one person is better than another. We are all working with integrity towards the same goal; "to keep ahead of our competitor by the superior performance of our people. The only measurement of that superior performance is how the customer perceives it."Entering this industry can be intimidating. There are many moving parts each playing a role. But take away job descriptions, we know how our teammates contribute, we've been trained to assist/perform those tasks ourselves. Learning the business and how it operates is essential to maintaining our one-hundred-year company philosophy. And that begins on our docks. I am so proud to see the personal development in Brittany throughout her training process. Her learning has truly been compulsory. Once again, congratulations! We’re just getting started.
